Against the Current
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
Red and orange push upward through cooler waters, their shapes rounded and marbled, crowding against streams of teal, emerald and blue that seem to flow the other way. Two clusters of color hold opposite ends of the panel, separated by an open stretch of pale ground misted with blue. In the lower group, a long tapered stroke of scarlet rises like a fin cutting upstream. Fine cells and swirls form wherever the warm and cool colors collide. Mandie poured and tilted, then poured again, letting the colors resist and mingle as they pleased. It is a painting about determination, about swimming hard toward what matters most.
For the determined spirit, this panel brings energy to a home office, a stairwell or a narrow wall near a workout space. Its red and teal contrast looks sharp against pale gray walls, with black frames and modern lighting nearby.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
