Almost Morning
Mixed media on panel
30" x 30" x 2.5"
Pale shapes drift like lanterns over a deep ocean of blue and teal, trailing long white ribbons that sway downward and cross one another as they fall. Some float near the top in soft, rounded forms; one rises tall along the right side, cloud-like and textured, while a hazy white glow blooms in the lower left like the first light pressing through the dark. The blue ground is sprayed and layered, shifting from indigo to sea green with a soft, misty grain. Mandie sprayed, poured and let gravity draw each line, delighting in how they tangled. It feels like the hour just before dawn, when the dark begins to loosen and hope returns.
How about the bedroom wall facing the bed, so its pale lanterns greet you as the day begins? Deep blue walls would make it glow, though crisp white bedding and weathered driftwood tones work just as well. Leave a little room around it to breathe.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
