Almost Silence
Mixed media on panel
10" x 10"
Look into the dark and the stars start to appear. A fine white mist sweeps diagonally across a deep green night, dense in some places and thin in others, like a river of light running through the sky. Larger dots settle here and there, a few bright and round, most no bigger than a grain of salt. In the upper corner, a faint wash of violet glows at the edge of the darkness. Mandie built this sky with layers of spray and flicked paint, letting each pass fall where it would. It is the hush of standing outside late at night, the world asleep, and feeling small in the very best way.
Quiet and starry, it suits a bedroom where the day winds down, or a reading chair lit by a single lamp. The deep green feels rich against walnut, cognac leather and warm brass, and it looks especially lovely on a wall painted forest or olive.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
