Ancient Light
Mixed media on canvas
30" x 30" x 2.5"
Gold dust settles over the canvas like light that has traveled a very long way. At the center lies a dark, earthen mass of umber and olive, threaded with fine black cracks that branch like roots or old riverbeds. Across it, patches of brilliant cobalt and teal pigment bloom like minerals breaking through stone, while coral dots, violet flecks and looping golden lines drift over the surface like markings on a forgotten map. The edges soften into misty turquoise and blue. Mandie layered powders, pours and textures, letting them crack and settle in their own time, so the surface feels excavated rather than made. It carries the hush of something old and precious, glowing quietly through the ages.
Picture it in a library or a study lined with leather-bound books. Olive or deep umber walls, a walnut desk and aged brass hardware suit its gilded, earthen surface, and warm lamplight after dark brings out every glimmer of gold dust.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
