Aubade II
Mixed media on canvas
10" x 10"
Like a sail catching the first wind of morning, a broad yellow shape leans across the canvas, wide at the top and narrowing to a soft point below. Fine hairline cracks wander through its surface, and along its upper edge the paint has dried into a delicate lacework of tiny crinkles. Beyond it, the dark teal ground is crazed and cracked like old pottery, flecked with olive and bronze. Mandie poured the yellow in one bold motion and let both layers dry, shrink and split at their own pace. The contrast is striking, sunshine against shadow, and the whole piece feels expectant, as if a day full of possibility were about to unfold.
Breezy and hopeful, this panel would lift a narrow kitchen wall, a sunny landing or a bathroom with a window. The yellow glows beautifully against deep teal or charcoal paint, and it looks at home with brass hardware, olive branches in a jug and simple stoneware.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
