Aubade IV
Mixed media on canvas
10" x 10"
A great yellow pool spreads across the canvas, and at its center, a heart of greens unfolds: pale mint, lime and deep emerald swirling into cells and veins like a garden seen from above or a leaf just unfurling. Thin white threads trail through the green like morning dew. Below, the dark ground gives way to a band of marbled lilac, slate and gold, rippling like a shoreline at low tide. Mandie poured color into color and let the layers push, part and bloom on their own, so each cell is a small surprise. It sings with freshness and new growth, the joyful hum of a garden at sunrise.
Fresh and green at heart, it brings a garden feeling to a kitchen, a sunroom or a corner filled with houseplants. The yellow and emerald look wonderful with rattan, terracotta and stone, and the piece forms a striking row alongside its Aubade companions.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
