Before the Wind
Mixed media on panel
36" x 36"
Four slender stalks rise from the ground, yellow, turquoise, cobalt and a blaze of pink and orange, each one feathered like a grain head reaching for the sky. Behind them, the world is all soft weather: blush and lilac clouds, a band of warm gold light, a misty blue sky dusted with fine spray. Everything holds its breath in the moment before a breeze arrives. Mandie laid each stalk down in a single quick motion, thick paint dragged into feathers that stand up from the surface, so they seem almost to sway. It is a painting about the beauty of waiting, and the quiet joy of things about to move.
At 36 inches square, this work brings a fresh, open-air feeling to a living room, a sunroom or a bedroom that looks out onto green. It pairs gracefully with light woods, white linens and anything that lets in morning light.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
