Before Words
Mixed media on canvas
10" x 10"
Soft and searching, this painting feels like a thought that has not yet found its words. On a pale, wood-grained ground, a smoky violet form rises like a mountain or a gathering cloud, brushed in quick, layered strokes that let the light ground show through. Above it, delicate green lines curve and sweep like grasses or long stems in the wind, and near the top a small figure of plum, gray and rose floats within faint pencil-like outlines, like a bird or a blossom only half imagined. Mandie worked loosely and intuitively, sketching, brushing and leaving space for what wanted to emerge. The piece is tender, quiet and gently mysterious.
A gentle companion for a study or a writing desk, the kind of corner where ideas take their time. Its smoky violet and pale tones settle easily against warm plaster or oatmeal walls, with a simple oak frame, a handmade bowl and a sprig of dried lavender nearby.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
