Broken, Beautiful
Mixed media on panel
24" x 24"
Jagged white lines crisscross the panel like cracks spreading through glass, intersecting at sharp angles in every direction. Beneath them, the colors are rich and saturated: magenta and raspberry, cobalt and teal, deep forest green and a bright chartreuse that glows along the bottom. Where the white lines run, their edges are ragged and torn, revealing the pale ground as though the color had been split open. The painted areas are textured and layered, with drips and pooled patches catching the light. Mandie laid down the color, then broke through it, and the fractures turned out to be the most beautiful part. It is a painting about finding wholeness in the cracks, and light in what was broken.
Jewel toned walls in emerald or sapphire would make its jagged white lines feel especially crisp. Add brass, velvet and dark wood, and this resilient, richly colored canvas becomes the heart of a living room, an entry or a well loved study.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
