Burning Bright
Mixed media on panel
12" x 12"
A ring of vivid yellow blazes against a smoky charcoal ground, bright as a flame seen through dark glass. At its center sits a deep crater of olive and shadow, crossed by faint white threads like cracks in cooling stone, while fine golden spray drifts beyond the ring in a soft halo. The yellow is dense and velvety, almost powdery, and its outer edge dissolves into speckled grain. Mandie poured the center and let it shrink and wrinkle as it dried, then sprayed the glow around it with a light hand. The result is intense and steady at once, a small fire that refuses to go out.
Compact and dramatic, its blazing ring on charcoal makes a striking accent on a bookshelf, a desk or a gallery wall. Black metal, olive green and brass accents suit its smoky palette, and a small lamp beside it makes the yellow glow brighter.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
