Burning Through
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
Scarlet and orange rise up this tall, narrow panel in rounded billows, like flames climbing a column, their surfaces marbled with lighter orange cells where the colors met and moved. Along the left edge, cooler colors run alongside in thin streams: cobalt, turquoise, lime and lemon, with navy drops scattered beside them like beads of water standing against the heat. The white ground shows through in small openings, giving the fire room to breathe. Mandie poured from the top and let gravity pull each color down its own channel. It has the fierce energy of something that refuses to be held back.
Need a vertical accent with real heat? Hang it beside a fireplace, next to a tall bookcase or on a narrow stretch of dining room wall. The scarlet and orange glow beautifully against charcoal or deep blue paint, with iron, leather and candlelight nearby.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
