Cantilena II
Mixed media and resin on panel
8" x 8"
Three colors take turns along the top like voices in a gentle round: deep cobalt, sunny lemon and a soft sage green. Each releases its own set of drips down a glowing golden ground, the blue short and bouncing, the yellow long and steady, the green the longest of all, reaching nearly to the bottom. A fine shimmer runs through the background like dust in sunlight. Sealed beneath a clear resin layer, the colors take on a glassy, liquid depth. Mandie let each pour find its own length, then preserved the moment just as it settled. The piece is simple, lyrical and full of easy warmth.
Hung as a set with the other Cantilena works, it becomes part of a small chorus of gold. On its own, it suits a desk, a small bathroom wall or a bookshelf, with cobalt and lemon accents, sage textiles and warm oak nearby.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
