Childhood Summer
Mixed media on panel
10" x 8"
Warm coral light fills the whole panel, the color of long afternoons that never seemed to end. In the middle, a glossy red shape melts downward like a popsicle in the sun, its edges soft and its base glowing with a patch of lemon yellow. Above it, a darker plum crown sits heavy and grainy, flecked with tiny bubbles, while a blush of magenta drifts in from the left. The coral ground carries faint ripples where the paint moved and settled. Mandie poured and let the colors spread into one another without forcing a shape, and the playful forms arrived on their own. It is pure nostalgia, sweet, sticky and golden, the feeling of being small and free.
Nostalgic and sweet, it would be at home in a sunny kitchen, a child's room or the hallway where summer photos hang. Coral and red glow against warm cream walls and look cheerful beside rattan, striped cotton and a bowl of ripe peaches.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
