Climbing Toward Light
Mixed media on panel
20" x 20"
On the left, a column of soft round shapes stacks upward like stepping stones: lavender at the bottom, then green, then buttery yellow, then a warm orange haze, and finally a glowing red at the top. On the right, a tall ladder of raised yellow rungs climbs beside a single fine line, each rung outlined in white and pierced with small windows of teal and navy. A dusky teal ground surrounds both, misted with spray and scattered with small red drops. Mandie pressed and dragged the thick yellow paint, letting it ridge and pool, and sprayed the circles in soft, rising succession. The whole piece is about steady upward movement, one step at a time toward the light.
Hopeful and upward, this is a wonderful painting for a stair landing, a home office, or a child's room. Pale lavender or warm cream surroundings, light oak, and a few green plants echo its stepping stones of color as they rise toward the light.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
