Distant Summer
Mixed media and resin
5" x 3"
Tiny as a postcard, this piece holds a whole season. An orange sun blazes in the upper corner, its edge breaking into a froth of yellow bubbles, while below it the world turns to sea: layers of turquoise and teal, deepening as they fall, with a dark cloudy shadow drifting in the middle like a boat seen far off. Beneath a glassy coat of resin, a crinkled, film-like texture catches the light in fine veins and folds. Mandie layered color and sealed it under resin, letting the surface trap every ripple and bubble as it cured. It feels like a summer remembered from a great distance, warm, hazy and dear.
Tiny as a keepsake, Distant Summer is perfect for a desk, a nightstand, or a small easel on a shelf. Pair it with a shell from the beach, a favorite book, or a framed photograph to keep that summer feeling within reach all year.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
