Duet
Mixed media on canvas
10" x 10"
Three rounded forms lean against one another on a pale ground, as close as dancers mid-step. On the left, a deep blue shape is streaked with gold, crimson and green, its paint thick and dimpled. On the right, a plum and magenta form is swept with ribbons of mint and white that swirl like silk. Between them stands a quieter mauve shape, smooth and softly brushed, quietly keeping time. Each form has its own rhythm and surface, yet together they feel like a single conversation. Mandie layered and dragged the paint so the colors marbled where they met, and the partnership emerged as she worked. It is tender and companionable, a portrait of two voices finding harmony.
Made for two, it feels right in a bedroom, propped on a dresser or hung just above a shared nightstand. The plum, deep blue and gold respond beautifully to warm lamplight, and a velvet throw or a brass picture light brings out the richness of the paint.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
