Finding North
Mixed media on panel
40" x 30"
A ring of cool mint and turquoise, crossed through its center by two raised arms, floats on a field of golden yellow like a compass or a wheel ready to turn. The ring is thick and sculpted, its surface ridged and creased, and splashes of cobalt and green spin off its edges in quick, bright sprays. Behind it, drips of yellow run down from a band of fine crackle along the top, and soft navy shadows close in at the sides. Mandie set down the circle and its cross with deliberate strokes, then let the paint splash as it wished. The painting carries a sense of steady direction, a quiet guiding light in a bright and busy world.
In a home office or a study, its compass-like ring offers a steady point of focus. Mint and golden yellow look beautiful with a white oak desk, a navy chair and a leafy plant, and the sculpted ridges reward side light from a window.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
