Flamenco
Mixed media on panel
24" x 12"
Against a deep teal ground, a fiery shape erupts upward, all tangerine and gold, its edges cracked and lacy like a dancer's skirt caught mid-spin. Thin streams of yellow lift beside it in slender, wavering lines, like arms raised high, while at the base a fan of green and turquoise sweeps out in rippling layers. The poured paint pools and splits, opening into fine veins and cells where the colors pull apart, and the faint grain of the panel shows through the dark background. Mandie poured and tilted the panel, letting gravity and chance shape the movement. The result is full of passion and fire, a burst of rhythm and heat.
Full of movement, Flamenco brings a spark to a dining room alcove, a narrow hallway, or the wall above a bar cart. Deep teal or terracotta walls, a leather chair, and a few brass candlesticks would carry its fiery dance right through the evening.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
