Free Fall
Mixed media on canvas
24" x 24"
Wide loops of sky blue swing around the canvas like the trails of something tumbling through the air, circling, crossing and spinning back on themselves. Inside the loops, cobalt pools, pale cream islands and flashes of bright orange collide, while sprayed clouds of forest green, olive and mint drift behind them. Splatters and fine flecks fly out to the edges, adding speed. The paint is thick and ropy where it was poured, with rust and orange freckles caught in the blue. Mandie moved quickly, letting the paint loop and fall without correcting its path. The painting feels weightless and thrilling, that rush of letting go and trusting you will land softly.
Airy morning light suits these looping blues, which seem to move as the sun shifts. Consider a stairwell, a bedroom or a breezy living room with pale sand walls, light oak, rattan and soft blue textiles, and the whole space will feel a little lighter on its feet.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
