Gentle Days IV
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
Six colors fall side by side like ribbons let loose from a single hand. Cobalt, inky navy, leaf green, sunflower yellow, tangerine and red begin together in a soft knot at the top, then part ways and stream down the white panel, each one swelling and narrowing as it travels. The paint is thick and glossy, pooling into little rounded beads, and a single red drop rests at the very bottom as if it simply decided to stop there. Mandie poured the lines and tipped the panel upright, trusting gravity to set the pace. The result is easy and unhurried, a slow morning in color, the kind of day you wish would never end.
Imagine a pair of Gentle Days panels flanking a bed or a doorway, each one swaying in its own direction. This fourth panel, with its cobalt, sunflower and tangerine ribbons, looks bright and fresh with crisp bedding, pale oak and a few cheerful cushions.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
