Halcyon
Mixed media on canvas
36" x 24"
Calm descends in soft diagonal bands, like a rainbow seen through morning mist. Rose melts into gold, gold into lime and sky blue, then violet, coral and plum, each stripe blending into the next without a single hard edge. A fine spray gives the whole canvas a velvety, powdery grain, and tiny dots of navy, gold, red and white are scattered across it like stars or drifting seeds. Toward the lower corner, the colors brighten again, as if the sun had just broken through. Mandie built these layers with misted passes of spray, never quite sure how the hues would meet. What emerged is serene and luminous, a picture of peaceful days and a heart at rest.
Above a bed or a low dresser, its soft rainbow bands bring a tranquil glow to the start and end of each day. Pale linen, blush pillows and a light ash nightstand suit it well, or let it brighten a hallway where its gentle diagonals invite you to slow down.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
