Half Asleep
Mixed media on panel
36" x 24"
In that drifting space between waking and dreaming, the world turns soft and slanted. Long diagonal bands sweep across the panel: deep navy and cobalt on the left, a pale silver streak glinting near the lower corner, then mauve, smoky brown and khaki easing toward a cool sea green at the top. Every edge is blurred by fine spray, and in the upper right the faint grain of the panel shows through like a pattern on a pillow. Nothing is sharp, nothing insists. Mandie misted each layer gently over the last, letting the hues drift and settle until the colors seemed to dissolve into one another. It is a hushed, tender painting, the visual equivalent of a deep, slow breath.
Drowsy and soft, it is a natural fit for a bedroom, especially above a headboard upholstered in navy or taupe. Mauve and khaki bedding, a walnut nightstand and a dimmable lamp match its dreamy slant of color as evening settles in.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
