Heavy With Light
Mixed media on panel
36" x 24"
Bright marigold yellow fills the panel like a field in full sun, and over it falls a dense, tangled rain of navy, plum, crimson and emerald. The darker colors gather thickly at the top, knotted and layered like the canopy of a forest, then stream downward in long, thin lines that thin out as they reach the bottom. Tiny flecks of orange and red scatter across the yellow like seeds or sparks. The pour is glossy and raised, each drip forming a small ridge that catches the light. Mandie let the weight of the paint pull it downward, embracing every unexpected branch and merge. It is a painting where shadow and brilliance live side by side, each making the other glow.
Candlelight and evening lamps make its marigold ground glow, so think of a dining room with dark wood or a library painted forest green. Emerald velvet, a crimson rug and brass accents carry the tangled canopy of color out into the room.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
