Hiding Place
Mixed media on panel
24" x 36"
Thick, sweeping strokes of teal, mint, mauve and plum arch across the panel like branches leaning together to make a shelter. They overlap and tangle, dense with texture, the paint dragged and stacked so each crest catches the light. On the left, a cluster of tall blades in gold, rust and turquoise rises from a yellow base, with dark drips running down like roots. Deep inside the thicket, a warm glow of apricot and gold opens in the lower right, a small clearing where the light gets in. Mandie worked in fast, layered gestures, letting the colors pile up and drip, never knowing where the next sweep would land. The whole painting feels protective and safe, a secret refuge held in color.
Need a cozy corner? This canvas creates one. Hang it beside a deep armchair or a window seat, with mauve cushions, a mint throw and a few trailing plants, and its arching branches of teal and plum will make the nook feel sheltered and private.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
