Homesick for Rain
Mixed media on panel
60" x 36" x 2.5"
Rain falls across a patchwork of color, and the heart longs for its familiar sound. Blocks of turquoise, sunflower, lime, apricot, cobalt and soft rose stack and overlap across the tall panel like windows lit at different hours. Down through all of them run countless fine drips of yellow, aqua, white and blue, falling in steady, glistening lines. Some squares are sprayed and soft, others bright and opaque, and the drips sit raised and glossy on top, catching the light. Mandie layered this surface patiently, letting each pour veil what was beneath without ever fully hiding it. It carries a sweet ache for the comfort of home and quiet, rainy afternoons.
Comfort on a gray day is what this patchwork of color offers. Hang it in a reading nook, a family room or a cozy kitchen, with apricot and turquoise textiles, a rattan chair and, ideally, the sound of rain on the window.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
