Hurrying Home
Mixed media on panel
12" x 12"
Everything leans the same direction, as though the whole painting were rushing up a hill toward a lit window. Broad streams of cherry red, marigold and tangerine sweep diagonally from the lower left, flanked by cobalt and indigo ribbons and a quick flash of grass green. The red sits wide and glossy at the center, pocked with bubbles, while the orange beside it breaks into marbled cells and lacy edges. Mandie poured with a fast hand and tipped the panel so every color hurried along together, splitting and rejoining as it ran. It carries the happy, breathless urgency of heading back to the people who are waiting for you.
Full of momentum, it makes a cheerful welcome in an entryway or along a hallway that leads toward the kitchen. The cherry red, marigold and cobalt look lively against warm white paint and pair nicely with a wooden bench, a woven runner and a basket of scarves.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
