Joy Breaking Open
Mixed media on panel
18" x 18"
Petals of warm apricot burst outward from a dark, shimmering center, like a sunflower caught in the instant it decides to open all the way. Thin rivulets of plum and near black race along each petal, and a vein of teal pools at the heart, glinting with tiny flecks. Above, flicks of white leap free into a sky that shifts from soft peach to deep navy. The bloom itself is thick and ridged, its edges ruffled where the paint spread and settled on its own. She flooded the center with color and let it run, then answered with quick splashes that she could never fully plan. It feels like gladness that simply cannot stay folded any longer.
How about a sunflower that never fades? This warm canvas brings a sunny glow to a kitchen, a breakfast nook or a bedroom, alongside terracotta, rattan, honey colored wood and a jug of fresh blooms, filling the space with open hearted joy.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
