Laughing and Crying
Mixed media on panel
12" x 12"
Red and blue wrap around each other in a swirling embrace, neither quite letting go. Brick and scarlet fold into cobalt and sky blue, marbling into violet where they meet, while a flash of yellow and green glows on the left like a sudden burst of laughter. The surface is glossy and fluid, full of soft ridges, cells and tiny spatters, as if the colors were still moving. A pale corner of white opens at the top left, a little window of air. Mandie poured and tilted, letting the warm and cool colors mingle however they wished. The painting holds both feelings at once, tears and smiles in the same moment, and finds something beautiful in the blend.
Emotional and alive, it suits a creative space such as a studio, a music room or a writing desk where feelings are welcome. The red and blue look striking against soft gray or warm cream walls, and they pick up nicely in kilim rugs and jewel-toned cushions.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
