Lento
Mixed media on panel
10" x 10"
Time seems to slow down inside this painting. Wine, plum and rosewood colors melt into one another at the top, darkening on the right into an ink-black night, while long fingers of dusty mauve descend in slow, unhurried strokes. Some stretch nearly to the top, others stop short, like candles burned to different heights. The glossy surface holds faint swirls, scratches and reflections, so the darkness seems to shimmer as you pass. Mandie let the paint travel at its own pace, tilting the panel and waiting rather than steering. The result is intimate and hushed, a painting that asks for nothing except a little stillness.
Slow evenings call for a painting like this. Hang it in a bedroom, a den or a dimly lit corner by a favorite chair, where its wine and plum tones deepen under lamplight. Velvet, dark walnut and aubergine or oxblood accents make lovely companions.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
