Mark of Joy
Mixed media on panel
24" x 24"
On a plain field of pale birch, the grain soft and visible, a single bold cobalt mark lands with all the spontaneity of a signature. Two thick strokes cross in the center, one flicking up into a curl, while thin lines of blue whip off in every direction and droplets scatter across the wood. Where the strokes meet, a pool of deep green and gold has gathered, shadowed and glossy. Sunny yellow lines and spatters dance through the background like laughter in the next room. Mandie made the mark in a few quick, joyful gestures and left the bare wood to frame it. The painting feels light, carefree and full of delight, a moment of happiness written straight onto the surface.
White oak, blue and white ceramics and a crisp, uncluttered wall are all this joyful piece needs. Its single cobalt mark on pale birch feels fresh in a modern living room, a home office or a bright entry, bringing energy with just a few confident strokes.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
