Midnight Swim
Mixed media on panel
36" x 36"
Cool turquoise water closes overhead, and somewhere below, a dark doorway opens into deeper blue. Within it, light flickers in streaks of yellow and pale gold, as if moonlight were finding its way down through the waves. On the left, a warm band of lemon and cream sits against heavy black, thick with ridges and scraped edges, while to the right the paint has been combed into fine furrows that ripple like currents. The surface is dense and sculptural, every stroke carrying weight. Mandie built these layers with palette knife and pour, pushing and pulling until the forms settled. It holds the hush and quiet thrill of slipping into dark water under a summer night.
Evenings are when this canvas shines. Hang it in a den, a media room or a bedroom painted deep teal, where low lamps and candlelight bring out the flickers of gold in its dark water. Velvet, brass and a lacquered side table complete the mood.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
