Missing the Desert
Mixed media on panel
11" x 14"
Heat, color and memory spill across a charcoal ground in one wide, sun-warmed shape. Chartreuse and lemon spread over most of it like sand under midday light, speckled with tiny orange flecks, while across the top a band of cobalt and periwinkle cools the scene like a high desert sky at dusk. Teal threads down between them, and along the right edge and the base, red and soft coral burn like canyon rock catching the last of the sun. In the upper left corner, a pale yellow patch is scored with fine lines. Wave after wave of color was released onto the panel, sliding and settling into this rugged, sprawling form. It carries a homesick longing, warm and wide open, for a landscape that stays with you.
For anyone who loves wide open landscapes, this canvas brings the warmth of the desert indoors. It feels at home in a study, a sunlit hallway or a Southwestern inspired living space, alongside terracotta, saddle leather, a potted cactus and woven rugs.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
