Mixed media on canvas
36" x 24"
A dark, glossy form sits at the center like a bud just before it breaks, deep olive and near black, flecked with sparks of orange and tiny bubbles in its shining skin. All around it, color is already bursting free: ribbons of lime, rose, cobalt, lavender and tangerine stream upward and outward in long, cell-flecked rays, as if petals were unfurling in every direction at once. The edges dissolve into rainbow lace, full of fine webbing and pooled color. Mandie poured the paint and tilted the canvas, letting each layer push through and around the others in ways she could never fully plan. It is a painting of becoming, of the beautiful tension just before something opens to the world.
Dramatic and fresh, with a dark central bud surrounded by bursting color, it makes a striking statement in a dining room or an entry. Deep green walls, black-framed mirrors and a vase of budding branches share its spirit of things about to unfold.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
