Open Heart
Mixed media on canvas
36" x 36"
Color here seems to breathe rather than sit. A great block of red glows at the center like warmth held close, softened at its edges by a fine mist of spray, while above it a cloud of white drifts with faint pink loops traced inside, like the echo of a laugh. Sky blue wraps around everything, deepening to slate on the left, and bright touches of yellow flash at the top and bottom like sudden sunshine. Along the right edge, a line of quick handwritten marks runs downward, playful and private. Mandie sprayed and layered in fast passes, letting each mist blur into the next and welcoming whatever happened. The result is generous, unguarded and full of feeling.
First impressions matter, and this warm canvas makes a generous one in an entryway or above a dining room sideboard. Terracotta, cream and soft blush in the room will pick up its glowing red, along with a round mirror, a wool runner and candlelight at dinner.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
