Ostinato I
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
A tall column of scarlet rises through the narrow panel, its surface broken into a fine, lacy web of cells and veins. Rivulets of cobalt and aqua thread through the red like the branches of a tree or the paths of a river, while bright yellow glows around it on every side. Thin edges of pink frame the composition, and drips of aqua and lime fall at the base. Up close, the textures are intricate and hypnotic, a pattern that seems to repeat yet never quite does. Mandie poured the layers and let them react, the colors pulling apart into their own delicate structures. The piece pulses with a steady, insistent rhythm, warm and full of life.
Rhythmic and vivid, it gives a narrow wall in a music room, a hallway or a stairwell a striking pulse of color. The scarlet and yellow look bold against navy or charcoal, and they pair handsomely with walnut, black metal and a vintage record player.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
