Ostinato VIII
Mixed media on panel
36" x 36"
A looping ribbon of color twists upward through the center, folding over itself in a form that seems to have no beginning and no end. Its edges are navy and teal, darkening like dusk, while inside it burns with scarlet, hot pink and sunny yellow, studded with small raised cells where the pour bubbled and broke. Behind it, a creamy ground falls in fine vertical drips of rose and lavender, all framed by a soft haze of sprayed blue. The ribbon went down in one long, winding gesture and Mandie watched the colors move through each other as they cured. The piece feels like a heartbeat or a refrain, steady, warm and comforting.
Deep teal velvet, a midnight blue dining room, brass lighting: these are the companions this rich, looping canvas loves. A walnut table and a hint of hot pink in a cushion or a bloom will pick up the warm glow burning at its core.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
