Ostinato XI
Mixed media on panel
48" x 24"
Fine lines of lemon, tangerine and pale sky blue travel together in a tall, graceful loop, crossing at the center and circling back again, light as a ribbon drawn through the air. Unlike a heavy pour, this one feels almost weightless, each strand thin and glossy, sometimes splitting apart, sometimes running side by side. Behind it, a soft dove gray ground is streaked from top to bottom with drips of green, orange, red and gold that fall from a bright, blended band along the upper edge. Mandie let the drips run first and then drew the loop in quick, continuous strokes, never lifting her hand. The painting has the ease of a dance, elegant, rhythmic and quietly uplifting.
Airy and graceful, this tall canvas brings lightness to a stairwell, a narrow entry or the wall beside a tall window. Pale oak, cream upholstery and a slim brass lamp keep it company, and its delicate loop of lemon and sky blue seems to float.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
