Ostinato XIII
Mixed media on panel
60" x 36" x 2.5"
A cool aqua loop winds upward through a downpour of color, its line thick and sculpted, splitting and rejoining as it climbs. Behind it, drips of mustard, magenta, crimson and navy fall in dense rows, crossed by horizontal threads of pink and red that turn the background into something like woven cloth. Stripes of orange, olive, scarlet and deep blue run along the top edge, where all that color began its fall. Pale splashes and small specks of white and navy cling to the loop like foam. Mandie let the drips build into a rich textile of color before pouring the loop over it in one flowing motion. The painting moves with the rhythm of a heartbeat, insistent and full of warmth.
Mustard and navy upholstery, a magenta accent and dark wood furniture make fine partners for this bold, tall canvas. Place it in an entryway, a dining room or beside a staircase, and a spotlight will show off its sculpted loop.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
