Our Song
Mixed media on panel
30" x 30" x 2.5"
Read from top to bottom, the painting moves like a melody. Lines of sky blue, ink black, lime and marigold stretch across the panel in mirrored order, some unbroken, some scattered into dots and dashes like notes on a staff. At the very center, a band of deep crimson bursts into broken shapes, the loudest chord in the song, held in place by the calmer rhythms above and below. A soft, smoky wash of gray and blue breathes behind everything. Mandie poured each line by hand, letting some flow smoothly and others stutter and drip, and the balance between order and impulse gives the piece its pulse. It sounds like two voices finding the same tune.
A lovely piece for a shared home, it fits a primary bedroom, the wall above a record console, or a music room where it can live among instruments and vinyl. Black frames, walnut and a marigold cushion or two will pick up its graphic rhythm.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
