Pastorale
Mixed media on panel
36" x 36"
Rolling bands of color stretch across the panel like hills beneath a wide country sky. Navy deepens the top, softening into cobalt and turquoise, and a lavender ribbon winds through the middle like a lane through open fields. A blush of coral cloud floats on the left, while below, a lime green slope rises from meadows of buttery yellow. At the right edge a small, puffy form of white and pale yellow sits with scalloped texture, as soft as wool. The surface is glossy and smooth, the colors flowing into one another the way poured paint does when it is allowed to settle in its own time. Mandie let each layer find its place. It is a gentle, sunlit idyll, simple and good.
Hang it where you wish you had a view: a dining room, a windowless hallway, or above a bed facing east. Its rolling bands feel like open country, especially with sage green walls, a farmhouse table in oak and a pitcher of wildflowers.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
