Pentimento
Mixed media on canvas
24" x 24"
Bold strokes sweep across the canvas in a single diagonal current, layered thickly in white, dove gray and silver, with a patch of golden ochre and a dense sweep of black near the top. Underneath, earlier strokes show through the gaps, ghostly traces of choices made and painted over. The paint stands up from the surface in heavy, ridged peaks, each gesture preserved in sculptural relief. Mandie built the layers quickly with a loaded knife, letting the lower colors surface wherever the strokes parted. There is a beautiful honesty in it, the past still visible beneath the present, every change part of the final form.
A gallery style hallway or a calm, minimal living room is a natural setting for this restrained, painterly canvas. Greige or warm ivory plaster echo its silvery tones, and a single ochre cushion or vase nearby picks up its warm accent with quiet precision.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
