Rain Prayer
Mixed media on panel
48" x 36"
Two triangles meet edge to edge to form a great diamond, outlined in thick, crusted bands of cobalt, tangerine and crimson, as if built from many small stones of color. Inside, soft loops of pink and teal hang one above the other, gentle and open like cupped hands. Behind it, a shower of drips falls from top to bottom in lemon, lime, rose and sky blue, every line running straight and steady. Tiny splatters scatter from the diamond's left side where the paint burst as it landed. Mandie built the outline slowly, layer upon layer, then let the drips fall around it like a downpour. The painting holds a quiet longing, hopeful and full of grace.
Mosaic tile, terracotta, teal ceramics and woven textiles all suit its crusted bands of color. Strong and symmetrical, this great diamond brings focus to a dining room, a foyer or a calm reading room, and morning light makes its pink and teal loops glow.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
