Solitude
Mixed media on panel
8" x 8"
A pale island drifts alone in a quiet blue sea, its surface the color of sand at noon and edged with a gentle, raised rim. Along one shore the color crumbles into granules of cobalt, teal and soft yellow, catching the light like wet stones at the waterline. Above, a mist of silver gray, sprayed fine and grainy, settles over everything and softens the horizon. Mandie built the island from thick layered texture and let pigment and spray fall where they wished, collecting in the crevices. There is no loneliness here, only the peace of being apart for a while, alone with the water and the light.
Peaceful company for a reading nook, a window ledge, or a guest room shelf, Solitude invites a pause. Sand colored ceramics, a single book, and soft blue textiles create a simple, restful setting around its quiet island, especially in soft morning light.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
