Something Bright Inside
Mixed media on canvas
40" x 30"
At the center of a soft, glowing field, a dark woven form holds a secret. Black paint has been combed into tight ridges, horizontal and vertical, like the slats of a shutter or a basket, and through its openings peek bright flashes of pink, orange, sky blue and gold. All around, color blooms in hazy spray: deep teal, sunny yellow, electric lime and a hot pink glow at the bottom. Along the right edge, faint white lines scribble down like a private note. Mandie layered the spray, then dragged a comb through thick dark paint, never quite knowing what light would show through the gaps. The painting feels like a heart that keeps its joy alive even when the outside looks guarded.
Curious and inviting, it draws people closer in a hallway, a living room or a creative workspace. Its black woven center feels at home beside rattan, cane and woven baskets, and its flashes of pink and orange can be repeated in a cushion or two.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
