Spilled Light
Mixed media on panel
30" x 24"
Color seems to have tipped over and run everywhere. A soft haze of yellow, pink, green and sky blue fills the background, sprayed so lightly it feels like air. Across it, a great glossy splash of cobalt lands in the lower half, and a lighter blue stream winds down the right side like water finding its way. Above, a magenta circle glows beside a crust of tangerine texture, while black splashes and a small violet drop add punctuation. Mandie poured and flung the paint with abandon, then let the layers settle into their own shapes. The painting feels generous and free, a happiness too big to keep in one place.
Sunlight seems to pour from Spilled Light, which opens up a living room, a sunroom, or a bright stairwell. Pale walls, rattan furniture, and soft pastel cushions let its sprayed haze and playful color feel like an afternoon that never quite ends.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
