Starting Over
Mixed media on panel
36" x 12"
Long lines of color stand tall and steady, as if lined up at the very beginning of something. On the left, a vivid magenta flows down and blends at its top into deep violet; then indigo, sky blue, lime green, sunshine yellow, tangerine and scarlet follow, each falling the full height of the panel. The streams are thick and glossy, rippling with tiny ridges and beads, their tops rounded where the paint first landed. A soft mist of blue spray lingers on the white ground. Mandie poured each line in one confident motion and let it travel uninterrupted from top to bottom. It feels clean, brave and full of light, a fresh page and a gentle blessing.
Where does a fresh start belong? Perhaps in an entry hall, where its tall columns of color greet you every morning, or beside a mirror in a narrow foyer. Crisp painted trim, a simple bench and a bowl for keys let its optimism do the talking.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
