Summer Drifting
Mixed media on canvas
36" x 24"
Clouds of color float lazily across the canvas, never in a hurry to get anywhere. A sky of bright blue holds drifts of apricot streaked with white, a smoky cloud of charcoal glowing faintly rose at its edge, a band of periwinkle and a low ridge of plum. Below, a halo of yellow traces the shapes like late sun catching the rim of the sea, and teal pools gather beneath, softened by a small glow of lime green at the bottom. Every form is made of fine spray, so the surface feels soft and hazy, like warm air over water. Mandie let the mist build and blur, discovering the shapes as they appeared. It is the feeling of a long summer day, dreamy and content.
Lazy summer skies feel close at hand with this canvas in a guest room, a lake house or a breezy living room. Rattan, seagrass and soft apricot textiles pick up its drifting clouds, while a window open to the afternoon completes the mood.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
