Surrender
Mixed media on panel
24" x 24"
Letting go can look like this: a dark shape opening wide, its arms spreading until the edges soften and begin to drip. The black form sits heavy at the center of an ivory field, pooled and glossy, its outline breaking into rounded beads where the paint gave way. Behind it, slender lines of navy and red fall from a crackled band of color at the top, where tiny cells of cobalt, lime and white cluster like stained glass. Mandie poured the dark form and allowed it to spread and run without correction, accepting every bleed. The painting carries both weight and release, the deep exhale that comes after holding on too long.
Contrast is everything here. In a modern living room, a study, or an entry, ivory walls, black leather, and a single sculptural vase echo the dramatic form of Surrender and give the space a calm, gallery like poise.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
