Swaying
Mixed media on panel
24" x 6"
A tall green figure rises through the center like a reed bending in the wind. Its surface is thick and glossy, wrinkled into tiny ridges and ripples, with streaks of orange and red caught inside and rusty flecks settling near its base. Around it, black drips sway down the left edge while beads of crimson tumble along the right, and a hint of yellow brightens the top corner. A fine mist of pale blue spray softens the white ground, giving the whole scene a sense of open air. Mandie poured the green heavily and let it shift and settle as it dried, so the form seems to be moving even now. It feels light on its feet, playful and alive.
Tall and graceful, it suits the narrow wall beside a bookcase, a sliding door or a staircase. The deep green and rust tones pair beautifully with leafy plants, olive and cream textiles and dark wood, like a single reed brought indoors.

The Collections
Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
