Tangled
Mixed media on panel
60" x 36" x 2.5"
In a pool of turquoise light, a long coral line rises and bends like a wading bird, its slender neck curving at the top, its legs stepping down through the water. Around it, everything weaves and overlaps: a pale silvery pour trickling down the left side, sprayed loops of lemon curling along the bottom, a broad band of raspberry sweeping behind, and a green arc tumbling in from the upper corner. Strings of orange and yellow dots run down like beads on a thread, and white splatter sparkles across the whole surface. Mandie sprayed, poured and flicked in many layers, letting each new gesture catch on the ones before. The result feels playful and intertwined, a lively knot of joy.
Large and lively, it fills a living room wall or a stairwell landing with turquoise light and graceful movement. Add a coral cushion, pale oak and woven textures, or hang it above a long bench in a hallway where its wading bird can be discovered.

Pigment breaks loose across the surface, feathered forms climbing through bands of color, caught in the instant before they open all the way.
Paint falls in continuous vertical streams, layer over layer, color caught mid-descent before it ever reaches the ground.
At the edge of the visible world, resin, pigment powders, and luminous forms suggest planetary landscapes no one has named yet.
Immediate, unguarded and alive. Color erupts, gestures cut across fields of pattern, painting as a way of releasing what words cannot hold.
Burlap, plaster, and mixed media hold the memory of surfaces worn by time, artifacts of a history that was never written down.
Pigment flows in channels across white ground, color finding its own path the way water finds a bed to run through.
Pigment pools and cracks across the surface, veined like a lakebed or a membrane, ground still settling into its shape.
